Recently a lovely gentleman in my practice commented that he really appreciated the thoughtful discussions we had, so let me give you something to reflect on today about how we approach our health.
From what I’ve observed and learned through my 25+ years of study and clinical days, there are two distinct approaches to managing your health, and rebuild it. A bit of a divide, if you will, in the thinking process that Docs will use.
One approach relies on the inherent wisdom within your body, the other assumes the body always needs some kind of outside intervention.
One approach relies on supporting your body’s inner ability to function well, regulate, and heal, as it was designed to, on its own. The other relies on ingesting or injecting something from the outside to change a symptom.
One approach looks at the body as a whole, the other individual parts to be treated on their own.
Which do you think leads to true, long-term healing?
Which approach makes more sense to you?
I have my clinical opinion, but what do you think? This is a thoughtful discussion remember 😉
Inside-Out or Outside-In
For me, I keep it simple. It’s either outside-in or inside-out.
When making any clinical decision, or decision within my own family, I ask myself:
Does this support the body’s innate internal healing wisdom?
My training and years of experience guide me to a deep knowing that what typically works the best is to support the body rather than assume it needs something from the outside to fix it.
This hasn’t failed us yet.
The principles of chiropractic rely on the life-giving inherent ability of your body to thrive and be well; to direct all the energy and wisdom within the body to guide every functions and coordinate healing, through the powerhouse of the body – the brain and spinal cord. (You can read more about the neurology and widespread effects of spinal adjustments on the body as a whole in this post)
This philosophy isn’t just as old as the chiropractic profession, but it extends far beyond that. It also extends into many other cultures and societies living in these modern times, as well as those living well before us!
Although I’m seeing some slow trends shifting amongst primary caregivers, doctors who are sharing advice and guidance around lifestyle factors instead of just pharmaceuticals, so much of modern medicine forgets this power.
So it’s really up to you.
To ask yourself these questions and to think about what truly makes sense and how you want to manage your family health.
If you support your body’s innate wisdom, give the body all the requirements for health, find the right people to help you along the way, you might also be in awe of the healing power within you.
